God's grace and our obedience to Him (part 10)

Romans 6:19  I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. We give into what controls us, because our flesh is weak. What Paul is cautioning us to do is to seek God first and always.
Romans 6:20  For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. We were freed when we were weak.
Romans 6:21  What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. Where does allowing our flesh to go back to what we were doing because those things lead to death. (Remember death like sin came in when Adam sinned. )

Romans 6:22  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Once we are freed, we produce fruit in holiness and will have everlasting life because of the promise of God.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. One of my favorite lines in the entire bible. Wages imply something that we earn. By being being in a life of sin all we earn is death. A gift is something that's given freely and extra. So when we decide to follow God God gives us His Holy Spirit and eternal life. God is awesome.

God's grace and our obedience to Him (part 9)

Romans 6:15  What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. So many think that because they accepted Christ it's ok to continue to sin or live sinful lives. That's not the case.
Romans 6:16  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? If we are servants to one master then when we come under the law of grace we are servants to righteousness. We have to be servants to something. If we continue in our life of sin, we are servants of law and death, if we are new creatio ns then we are servants of righteousness. We walk because we obey Him. If we were in sin we would have to do things under obligation and couldn't live up to the law.
Romans 6:17  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. And in thanksgiving to God, we become servants of obedience after Paul's teaching who taught and followed the teachings of Christ. Paul explained how to be in obedience to God, and what obedience to God is, following Christ's teaching to that if we love Him we will follow His commandments, and walking in His commandments demonstrates our obedience and love to Him. So Paul directs us to obey God and demonstrate to Him that we love Him.

Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. This is how the walk works after we've been washed clean from sin we become slaves to righteousness

God's grace and obedience to Him (part 8)

Romans 6:11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. As we do, we die once but live forever in God.
Romans 6:12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Now Paul is cautioning us not to obey the mortal body and the “lust of the flesh and of the eye” (I John 2:15-16)
Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Don't give into what will give instant gratifaction, but stick with God, walk as Jesus walked, obey God. When we begin our walk with Christ, if we are to truly obey God then we will walk as He walked. Just because we have died and are risen through baptismal waters doesn't guarantee us position in His kingdom. I look on baptism as a promise to God to walk as His Son did, not to earn a way into heaven but because of what God and Christ have done for all of us. And so it is our new covenant as we become new creations. (2 Corinthians 5). It takes a measure of faith and that is why Paul wrote Romans 5, so that we know where the depths of our faith takes us.

Romans 6:14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Sin's hold is the law. The law points out what is sin in our lives, but once we died to sin we are under a new law, the law of grace.

God's grace and obedience to Him (part 7)

Romans 6:7  For he that is dead is freed from sin. We have to die in order to be freed from sin. This is the reason for being buried.with Him in baptism and hence the operation of God. (Col 3:12-13)
Roamns 6:8  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: And knowing that we died, we also know that we will be resurrected and are a new creature when we arise from the water. The operation of God works on our faith that when we participate in baptism we die with Him and more importantly we live with Him. And our walk begins.
Romans 6:9  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Christ went to the cross for us to show us that death has no more hold over us when we die to ourselves and walk as He walked.

Romans 6:10  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. He died once but lived forever in God.
